Drawer Box Specialties Upgrades Fleet Vehicles to Meet New Emissions Requirements
Orange, CA—Drawer Box Specialties has replaced its aging delivery fleet with three new box trucks to comply with California’s Senate Bill 1 (SB 1). The law, passed by the state legislature in April 2017, requires heavy-duty diesel vehicles that operate in California to reduce toxic air contaminant emissions. Starting in 2020, only vehicles compliant with this regulation are allowed to be registered by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. The older DBS fleet vehicles did not comply with the law’s guidelines, prompting the leasing of three new 28’ Penske MV607 trucks.
“With SB 1’s requirement to replace older commercial diesel vehicles by 2020, we had to retire our previous delivery trucks at the end of last year,” said Jim Irving, DBS General Manager. “We’re really pleased to have our new trucks up and running.”
In addition to being more fuel efficient and reducing emissions, the new trucks will help the company continue making timely deliveries of its high-quality drawer boxes, components and accessories to customers in southern California. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, DBS drivers are adhering to all safety guidelines as they make their daily deliveries to customers throughout the region.

Drawer Box Specialties Installs State-of-the-Art Edgebander
Orange, CA—Drawer Box Specialties (DBS) is pleased to announce that it has installed a new, state-of-the-art HOLZ-HER Edgebander ACCURA 1554 in its manufacturing facility in Orange, CA. This new capital investment reflects DBS’ commitment to continual improvement and to providing superior drawers, components and accessories to its customers.
Continuous improvement is one of our core values,” said Jim Irving, National Sales Manager for DBS. “Regularly investing in equipment upgrades such as this ensures we can continue to provide the high-quality products and exceptional turn-around times that our customers have come to rely on. This new edgebander will speed production and help us produce an even better finished product.”
Maintenance crews installed the new edgebander over the weekend. The new system allows DBS to offer PUR adhesives in addition to EVA. PUR produces extremely durable bond strength as well as a high level of moisture and heat resistance and an ultra thin bond line. HOLZ-HER’s Glu Jet hybrid technology produces a true, zero-joint edge band on all contemporary materials including textured and high gloss laminates. The edgebander’s state-of-the-art tooling produces clean, flush edges, radiuses and corners. The system’s edge control database and servo controls provide for consistent, repeatable edge profiles.

Drawer Box Specialties Hosts Manufacturing Day Event for Students
Orange, CA—On Friday, October 4, 2019, Drawer Box Specialties (DBS) will host 120 high school and college students at its factory in support of national Manufacturing (MFG) Day 2019. The day’s activities include a factory tour, lunch and the opportunity for students to experience first-hand what its like to work in a manufacturing career.
“We are thrilled to host this event for local area students,” said Jim Irving, national sales manager for DBS. “We fully support the Manufacturing Day mission of encouraging young people to explore the diverse career opportunities that exist in today’s modern manufacturing and wood products industries.”
The event runs from 11 am to 2 pm at the DBS factory at 1482 N Batavia Street in Orange, CA. A number of different companies have been invited to set up tables and provide information about job opportunities in their industries. In addition, representatives from local governmental offices will be attendance.

Drawer Box Specialties expands its custom component offering
(Orange, CA) Drawer Box Specialties is pleased to announce the newest expansion of its overall product offering with the launch of a stocking inventory program of pre-cut component parts for a variety of end use applications.
Among the items now stocked in the DBS warehouse are various pre-finished veneer and melamine- faced cores in common shelving dimensions, uprights for closet or pantry installations, cabinet components for lower and upper cabinets, drawer side blanks, and some wainscoting items to assist in providing a finishing touch to an installation.

States Industries, LLC, a major manufacturer of hardwood plywood and specialty panel products has announced the acquisition of California based Drawer Box Specialties.
Eugene, Oregon - DBS began operations in 1987 and is the industry leader in manufacturing drawer boxes, drawer storage systems, shelving units and specialty accessories. The company currently employs about 60 employees at its Orange, CA headquarters.
States' President, Mike Taylor called the addition of DBS a strategic extension of our existing value-added components business. "We are focused on continued growth by integrating toward the end user with an innovative mix of products and solutions. DBS has a great brand franchise that we think will be a perfect complement to our business moving forward. DBS will maintain most of its Management and its existing Sales team in Southern California. DBS President, Cathy Blankenship will continue to manage the business unit for States Industries.
